'Rango' Tops Weekend as Depp's Latest Hollywood Movie Success
Johnny Depp's voiced animated flick, "Rango" which was distributed by Paramount Pictures landed home the number one spot at the movie box office with an estimated $38 million, from 3,917 theaters to score the top opening of 2011 for a non-holiday weekend.At $38 million, Rango is the no. 6 highest opening weekend for Depp behind the of Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland.
Landing at No. 2 after Rango was Universal Pictures' The Adjustment Bureau that stars Matt Damon-Emily Blunt. The sci-fi romance thriller opened to a solid $20,945,000 from 2,840 theaters. In no. 3 was CBS film Beastly, starring former High School Musical Star, Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer with $10.1 million from 1,952 theaters. Rounding out the spot for no. 4 and 5 were Hall Pass and Gnomeo and Juliet.
